How to protect your car's paint through a Calgary winter
Brine and mag chloride attack paint chemically, gravel attacks it physically, and the cold makes washing harder. The steps that get a finish through to spring.

Protect before the first snow
Anything you put on the paint has to be on before the roads turn white. A sealant or ceramic coating gives salt and mag chloride something to sit on besides the clear coat, and makes every winter wash easier.
Wash on the warm days
Mag chloride stays damp and keeps working well below freezing. Rinse the vehicle, including the wheel wells and lower panels, whenever there's a stretch above zero. A touchless rinse is better than letting it sit.
Watch the front end
Traction gravel at highway speed chips bumpers, hood edges and mirrors. Coatings don't stop impacts. If the vehicle is new or you're keeping it long-term, film on the high-impact areas is the only real defence.
Don't forget the inside
Salt walks in on boots and dries into white rings on the carpet. Rubber floor liners catch most of it, and a deep interior clean in spring removes what got through before it stiffens and stains the fibres.
